Axiom NDT are specialists in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) which is a means of assessing the structural integrity or properties of metallic related materials without damaging them.
The ability to test through coatings can save a lot of time on-site and avoids the unnecessary removal (and subsequent reapplication) of the protective coating.
With our Eddy Current Inspection (ECI) expertise, with both conductive and non-conductive coatings, we have developed approved procedures for Galvanised and Thermal Sprayed Aluminium (TSA) coatings – ideal for rapid inspection of critical load path items on offshore drilling derricks or for flare stack and riser inspection.

Axiom NDT are a long established specialist inspection company (Est. 1985), operating within the onshore and offshore Oil, Gas and Renewables markets.
Our involvement with drilling derrick and drilling package inspection dates back to the first surveys within Exxon Mobils Beryl field in 1985,a customer ever since, and our reputation has been built in this time critical environment.
It’s not all drilling though and our multi-disciplined inspectors are currently active on offshore projects including
- Flare stack inspection (ECI/CVI)
- Pipework corrosion assessment (UT/CVI)
- Structural topside inspection (NDT/CVI)
- Pedestal crane inspections (UT/ECI/MPI)

Our core team (permanently employed and qualified to both PCN and ASNT standard, including the new PCN /CSWIP Offshore Inspectors qualification) have been with us many years and are supported by an in-house inspection department.

Axiom personnel were at the forefront during the early development of ultrasonic and eddy current testing (since the mid Sixties!) and this innovative approach continues today with the adaptation of existing technology to meet new challenges (testing through TSA coating using Eddy Current or Ultrasonic Testing of stainless steel mast bolts in the renewables industry, for example).
Recent partnering with StarNet Geomatics has enabled us to merge inspection reports with high definition laser scans, producing an online asset integrity system that is world class.

About Non-Destructive Testing
The term applies to a range of methods from a straightforward visual inspection or magnetic particle / dye penetrant inspection, to more complicated disciplines such as Eddy Current or Ultrasonics. The various techniques are designed to compliment each other and can be used together to provide complete coverage of a product or structure.
Of critical importance to all NDT disciplines is the ability of the technician to interpret the results generated and to understand where they fit into an overall assessment of structural integrity.
This only comes with experience and is an area in which our track record speaks for itself.
Recent Case Studies
Fire Damaged Wind Turbine (Yorkshire)This wind turbine was damaged by fire and subsequently disassembled to allow investigation into the possible cause of the fire and an assessment of structural damage. Acting on behalf of the manufacturer, Axiom provided site NDT services including Close Visual Inspection (CVI), Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI), Eddy Current Inspection (ECI) and Positive Material Identification (PMI). Samples of material were also taken from the turbine for destructive testing and further analysis.
