Rope Access Personnel: Recruitment Policy
Note: we only employ rope access technicians holding a valid certificate of competence issued by the Industrial Rope Access Trade Association (IRATA), following a period of training at an IRATA approved centre.
Fitness to work
For the majority of projects, a client approved medical certificate is required (e.g. offshore medical), for some projects with no client stipulation; a self-certification form may be considered acceptable.
It should be noted that a number of clients ask that personnel working on their sites complete an approved 10 part drug and alcohol test before mobilisation. Needless to say, Axiom has a zero –tolerance approach to personnel found to be working or attempting to check in for work under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Having identified potential recruits with the appropriate trade qualifications, an initial screening to assess their aptitude and attitude towards working at height will be carried out.
Selection of Personnel
Following an initial telephone interview, we request two independent references for each candidate – one of these must be trade related whilst the other may be less formal and related specifically to work at height.
At this stage we will also require a copy of the last two pages of the candidates IRATA log book and will check their level of qualification against IRATA records (this will help those whose certificates/log books have not yet been issued).
Continuing Appraisal and Professional Development
All our personnel are subject to an ongoing assessment of their performance and where possible will be offered additional training or assistance in areas in which their skills may require further development.
We are committed to the continuing professional development of our personnel and actively encourage further training both in house and through external providers.
